I happen to support Fan CharacterxCanon Character pairings. As long as it's done correctly. And no Mary Sues.
I'm probably gonna get a whole bunch of complaints from FC haters, but this is my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Key Phrase: When done correctly.

Problem is, it is often not so that's where the stigma comes from.

I approve. I even have one such pairing.

I agree. I've read fan fictions where the cannon character is paired up with an OC, in fact several cannon characters paired up with OC's. It can work if the OC is done right. You can even write a fan fiction that pairs yourself up with a cannon character and do it right (it's just that often it's not done right).

I thought fan characters and canon characters were the same thing. :iconcuriosityplz:

A fan character is a character that a fan of a series made and are usually placed in the world they are a fan of either as a love interest or to have their own adventure just for fun. A cannon character is a character originally from the series.

So using Bleach as an example because it's so well known- Ichigo and Rukia would be cannon characters while some girl named Ayako who isn't in the original show would be a fan character. Fan characters can also be known as RPCs or OCs

Oh, well all this time I've been calling fan characters "original characters." :stupidme:

Original Character is what OC stands for which is just another name for Fan Characters pretty much. OC's are normally used in Fanfiction though and FCs can just be made to fit into a certain universe and have nothing else done with them except pictures. They're practically the same thing and most people use the term interchangeably.

I've used the term OC to describe my own original characters from my own original universe. Like what would Raold Dahl call Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolates Factory? I'm so confused! :nuu:

Oh no- I was trying to help and I just confused you more! DX<

An OC would be a character from your on stories or from unofficial stories. I could call a character I made up for, lets say, Harry Potter, and have written a fanfiction with an OC. I'd also call a character I made up for my own original story an OC as well.

Did that help any? Or am I still totally unuseful? :/
